ANNOUNCEMENT: June 2020 Member Spotlight

Our June 2020 Member Spotlight goes to….

Brandon & Caitlin Randolph!!!

Brandon & Caitlin have been a part of Uncommon for just over 3 years now, and they have become such an important part of our tribe. You might’ve seen Brandon coaching some classes while Caitlin lifts really heavy weights over by the platforms. As you can see by the above graphic, they work hard, and their pain faces show for it! Did you know that this fun couple is moving to Australia in the fall!?
.
These two work super hard in multiple areas of life, and we are very proud to highlight them this month! To learn more about Brandon & Caitlin, keep reading!
.
Q1: What do you do for a living?

Brandon: Area manager for a Verizon retailer
.
Caitlin: PhD candidate in Chemistry at Purdue
.
Q2: How did you get into CrossFit?

Brandon: A buddy of mine did it while we were in college in Cookeville, TN. At the time I didn’t realize I was in the Mecca of CrossFit, and I just always thought it was too expensive while I was in school (way different priorities back then). However, a membership at a gym in Chattanooga was one of my first “big boy” purchases once I started my first job after college in 2015.
.
Caitlin:  I started personal training after high school. My personal trainer was also a CrossFit coach and convinced me to start CrossFit in 2014.
.
Q3: What do you like most about Uncommon?

Brandon: I love the community and family that is Uncommon. I love the people. Coming from Chattanooga and the gym we had down there, the community is what made it special, and we didn’t find that up here until we went to Uncommon.
.
Caitlin: I like the mindset of personal and physical growth. I like having people constantly push me to be a better athlete and a human. There are some pretty cool humans here.
.
Q4: What is your favorite CF movement? Why?

Brandon: I like any body weight movement/gymnastics, but I’ll be more specific and go with butterfly pull ups. Butterfly pull ups were the first “CrossFit” movement that I just absolutely had to do. I would stay after class every day for like the first year into CrossFit until I figured it out. I just thought the flow of it and that slight feeling of weightlessness would be so cool for an nonathletic chubby kid to do.
.
Caitlin: Anything with a heavy barbell.

.
Q5: What is your least favorite CF movement? Why?

Brandon: Funny enough, I’ve never really thought about this question before and it’s much harder than I thought it would be. My LEAST favorite movement would have to be either heavy thrusters or heavy wallballs. If I see those in a workout I know my soul will be crushed.
.
Caitlin: Anything that doesn’t involve a heavy barbell. But I still show up in my cute booty shorts and have a great time.
.

Q6: What do you do for fun on the weekends?
We like to hang out with friends and watch documentaries and home renovation shows. Every now and then we get sucked into watching Caitlin’s trash TV.
.
Q7: What have you learned most about yourself in the time that you have been a member at Uncommon?
Brandon: I think my time at Uncommon has changed my mindset from an athlete mindset to more of a coaches mindset. Before my time here I was very focused on MY numbers and scores and everything like that (which isn’t a bad thing necessarily), but I’ve come to learn the importance of moving well and what proper movement is. Uncommon has also given me the amazing opportunity to step in as coach from time to time, and it has really helped me learn what I would love to end up doing for the rest of my life. I love showing others how to move well and make their own improvements in fitness, and I now think I get more excitement out of helping other people PR than I do when I hit my own PRs.
.
Caitlin: I am not good at accepting failure, but it’s something I’m now actively working on, as failure is an inherent part of being an athlete and life. I have also learned that there’s more to fitness than being physically fit – emotional and mental health are a critical component of your overall fitness. I have also learned that it’s ok to not be ok… I greatly appreciate the methodology that Pete and Crystal have recently begun implementing where we consider physical fitness as a tool to improve mental and emotional health.
.
Q8: What are your guilty pleasures?
Brandon – I find shows from time to time that I love to binge that Caitlin has absolutely no interest in watching so I would consider those a guilty pleasure since I have to squeeze in episodes anywhere I can that doesn’t involve her having to watch them. I also still love fast food. I just don’t consume it nearly as much as I used to.
.
Caitlin – Trash TV. All trash TV. Every single show. All of it. Except the Bachelor. And ice cream. And tacos.
.
.
.
Way to be Uncommon, Caitlin & Brandon!
